Calls sent to the ring group
Use a ring group when
Use a queue instead when
A small team should all hear the phone, for example a three-person office or the warehouse.
Callers may need to wait, you want hold music and announcements, or you need call statistics.
1. Create it
Log in to the Admin ConsoleOpen your 3CX web address and sign in with an admin account. If you land in the Web Client, switch to the Admin view.
Open Call HandlingChoose Call Handling, then Add Ring Group.
Number and nameKeep the suggested extension number or enter your own, and give it a clear name such as Office or Warehouse.
Choose the ring strategyPick how members ring. See the table below.
Strategy
How it works
Ring All
Every member rings at once and the first to answer gets the call. The most common choice.
Prioritized Hunt
Rings members one at a time, in the order listed.
Paging
Plays the caller through members' phone speakers, for announcements on supported phones.
2. Members and timing
Add membersAdd each extension that should ring. For Prioritized Hunt, drag them into order.
Ring timeSet how long to ring before giving up, for example 20 to 30 seconds.
Destination if no answerChoose where calls go if nobody answers: a shared voicemail box, a colleague's mobile or a queue. Set separate destinations for out of hours and holidays if offered.
SaveClick Save.
3. Send calls to it
Point a phone number (a DID on your trunk), an IVR option, or another extension's forwarding to the ring group's extension number. Then call it from a mobile to check everyone rings and the no-answer destination works.
Troubleshooting
Problem
Likely cause and fix
One member never rings
They are on Do Not Disturb, or their forwarding rules send calls elsewhere.
Callers go to voicemail too fast
Increase the ring time.
Calls ring out of hours
Set the out-of-hours destination, and check the office hours for the department.
Menu names can shift slightly between 3CX updates. If an option isn't where this guide says, check the current 3CX administration manual.
