Plan a voice VLAN

Keep phones on their own network segment.

A voice VLAN separates phones from computers, which helps quality and security.

Steps

  1. Pick a VLAN number for voice, for example 100.
  2. Create the VLAN on your switches and router with its own IP range.
  3. Turn on LLDP or CDP on the switches so phones learn the VLAN automatically.
  4. Plug in a phone and check it gets an address in the voice range.
